“It’s necessary to “waste” a certain amount of energy in order to allow new ideas to emerge from the random spinning off of doodles, scribbles, worthless foolishness, playful notions, silliness, aimless meandering, wandering down dead-end streets, a few of which may turn out not to be dead-ends. Here’s a fresh piece for CLASH magazine. This months Write On feature has the genius songster and comic artist Jeffrey Lewis asking “What’s the difference between art and craft?” Hmmmm…. good one Jeff.
He’s able to explain in great detail how he draws a comic but can’t even begin to describe how he writes a song. Lewis’ conclusion being that a ‘craft’ can clearly be described as a step by step process and an ‘art’ the result of something slightly more mysterious…….
Oh no, I think I’m a craftsman!
